Unit 3 makes the TEFL student aware of the different teaching theories and techniques available for use in the classroom, how they have developed over the years, their purpose as well as the positive and negative aspects of each technique as discovered in practice by other teachers in the past. It also suggests the ESA method as the best suited to new and developing teachers of EFL so as to give them (the beginner EFL student teacher) a starting point, thus ensuring the best possible outcome in the practical execution of being an English language teacher, especially in the beginning stages when such advice is not only sought after by the student, but integral to the success of their actual teaching efficiency once they are practicing teachers. The guidance given on the use of error correction in the classroom (and the marked difference between mistakes and errors) is very important as it is the teachers responsibility to build confidence and motivation in the use of the English language in the students they are teaching, and improper or negative use of error correction could no doubt cause a great deal of damage in the students which was unintended by the teacher. I find myself recognizing and remembering quite a few of these methods and teaching techniques/ games from my own primary and secondary learning experience, and I can better understand why certain methods were employed by the teachers in different situations in order to best achieve the learning objective of the particular lesson of the day. It's highly fascinating indeed.
