This unit covers the teaching method that this course employs, Engage, Study, and Activate (ESA). This technique is used because it motivates students to want to learn the language, exposes them to it, and gives them a chance to use it. In the Engage step, students are warmed up for the lesson and ready to engage with English through games and activities, but are not taught anything. In the Study step, students are taught the lesson content. It begins by eliciting from the students what they know about a concept, and then filling in the gaps in their knowledge. Their understanding of the concept(s) is then checked. In the Activate stage, students are encouraged to freely use their knowledge of English to communicate fluently, rather than accurately. Other topics this Unit focuses on are how to correct students mistakes and errors effectively, giving feedback, and lesson planning. I feel the main thing I learned from this unit was all the different ways that students can engage, study, and activate a lesson conflict. The text provided examples of activities for each phase of the lesson, and a combination of all of them seem to be a good way to keep learners interested in learning English.
