The unit first talks about several different methodologies of teaching and then digs deeper into the methodology ESA or Engage, Study and Activate. This method motivates the students, exposes them to the language, gives them the opportunity to use it and gives the teacher flexibility in the classroom. One very important component of this process is elicitation. Elicitation techniques help the teacher to get students to respond. It gives the teacher information about what the students know and need to know. It increases student talk time and thus reduces the teacher’s talk time. In addition, the unit lists several elicitation techniques but also ideas for the three different phases. Lastly, the unit explains how to give feedback and how to correct students.
