This unit has a great overview of the EFT methodology, mistakes and feedbacks. It is important to know the history, essential characteristics and practice of each methodology as it helps to choose the correct one to apply in class. There is a vast choice though, in my opinion, there are few that have most influenced current TEFL practice: The classic method – grammar translation, audio – lingualism (so called “army method” based on repetition and drills), task based learning and communicative language learning based on real life situations. Engage, Study and Activate (ESA) accepted as the most effective and the most logical of all the methodologies for new teachers to apply in the classroom. It consists of several sequences as “Straight Arrow”, ”Boomerang” and “Patchwork”, which are essential for the lesson planning. Correcting the student is another topic of the unit, which explains the correction techniques and the importance of giving the feedback to the students.
