Teaching isn’t an easy task. It’s a job that requires a lot of dedication. It is time consuming and in most cases underpaid and not properly accredited. Teachers have to work hard to keep up with their school programs as they have to deal with different personalities in the classroom with issues that may arises during the year, therefore I believe teaching is more than a job but vocation, where the actual reward is the ideas you give your students with what they would need in their lives. However, the subject of my final summative task, is a different aspect of teaching, that somehow relates to my introduction anyway, which is the investigation of the advantages and disadvantages of independently creating teaching material for the ESA methodology lesson. An argument that I brought to the attention of my teacher during my TEFL course here in Phuket. Despite the fact that each individual has to put his/her own creativity and ability in play to interpret and produce their lessons, I’m personally keen on practicality. I find, therefore, extremely beneficial to codify recurring methods and procedures to create reliable formats that simplify, duplicate and standardize their use to deliver a “quality certified” service. While taking the TEFL course, I was struck by the fact, that teachers have no prepared material to use for their lessons, but instead, they have to create their own, practically from scratch, for each and every single lesson. This was something I did not expect, and I still not quite understand. Why I have to go through three different books (TB,SB,WB) and eventually look on the web or produce totally new material to put together an ESA lesson, when I maybe could have a comprehensive, thoughtful and ready to go ESA text? From a business prospective point of view, I see this as a problem, that not only causes a great expenditure of time for teachers, but also because ultimately the total arbitrary creation of the material may cause uncertainty in the outcome of the lesson. Moreover, it is also a missing opportunity for extra revenues that could be generated by the sales of the ESA books, from the download of contents on the web, and so on. As I previously mentioned, I’m keen on practicality, I like to turn problems into opportunities and to rethink when possible established approaches. Therefore, the absence of an ESA book, I see it as an opportunity to actually implement TEFL business potentials, brand awareness and the quality of lessons thought today by delivering new inspirational material to Teachers all around the world. So, besides the fact that the TESL courses are extremely well organized and thought with scrupulous attention, I believe that ESA teaching material should be made available to teachers to properly promote and reproduce in their lesson of the ESA methodology. In conclusion, I’d like to bring your attention the prospect to rethink how new born ESA teachers approach the market and produce and research their material for their lesson today by giving them the actual instruments they need to accomplish their tasks. The ESA books!
