As an ESL qualified teacher, I would think that there will be many opportunities to be able to tutor certain ESL students in their home. I am aware that this is being done all over the world after mingling with some friends who are English teachers. Even online tutoring is gaining in popularity. One on one teaching allows the teacher to focus on just one individual rather than an entire group of people. The rapport with the student is built right away, and it becomes easier to teach and control the student. One on one teaching is more effective than a classroom situation as just one student gets all the attention. It is easier to teach in a one on one situation. Everything should become easier for the teacher. There would be some disadvantages with one on one teaching and that is, the student would not be able to work with fellow students in activate activities. In my opinion, one on one teaching would be good to use as an "extra boast" to the student to help the student gain vocabulary and pronunciation or prepare a student for an IELTS test. In a group teaching setting, I would think there is more of a challenge to control the class if there are naughty kids. However, in a group setting, the teacher can utilize all his/her learning skills by effectively using the proven ESL ITTT training course he/she has completed. In group settings, the Engage, Study, Activate plans become effective whereas it is relatively nonexistent in a one on one situation. With group settings the teacher can utilize a wide range of activities, whereas in a one on one situation there would seem to be a limited amount of activity you can do. Group settings I believe would be good for pair work, games, and lots of interaction between student and student rather than teacher student in a one on one situation. In a classroom away from home, students can become more relaxed away from the pressures from home. On the other hand, in a one on one situation is usually conducted in the home of the student. In this situation, the student can feel more pressured by parents lurking nearby monitoring both the teacher and the student. In a group setting, games are utilize to spur interest in the English class and competition between teams become fun as a welcomed break from study. It would seem that games would be nonexistent in a one on one situation. The entire time would be spent drilling, back and forth questions and answers. This would seem to be so tiring to the student. In a one on one, there would seldom be a break from constant dialog with teacher student. So there are advantages and disadvantages to both group and one and one teaching. I would only recommend just using one on one teaching to boast the vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and grammar in a one on one situation. In a classroom situation, I would use all my skills as a teacher to teach the way I have been taught in this ITTT study course. Thank you...
