Why complete a TEFL course In today's world English is the predominant language. It is estimated that more than 500 million people speak it in a native way, we must also add the fact that English–speaking countries are the most influential countries in our globalized world. This means that in order to be competitive in a modern globalized society a person should have at least basic knowledge of English language and advanced communication skills. Teaching English as foreign language has become a requirement for many education centers. The demand for teachers has increased noticeably in last few years. Completing this TEFL course would boost my knowledge and curriculum, this would allow me to search for better job opportunities. As a non-native Speaker, I find English extremely exciting and being able to teach it from a non-native perspective helps me connect better with my students. My native language is Spanish and I also have a major in Vietnamese language, History and culture. So, this mixed knowledge of cultures and languages somehow directed me towards becoming a language teacher. For the last couple of years, I’ve been teaching at kindergartens, pre-schools and some home tutoring as well. I work mainly in Hanoi, Vietnam the city in which I’ve lived for the past 10 years. Now I’ve decided to pass this TEFL course and move into more challenging classes. Vietnam is a country that has slowly but steadily eradicated poverty, becoming one of the countries with the fastest economic growth in Asia. It’s also very safe country. Every year there is an increase in the number of foreigners visiting the country and many English-speaking tourists end up staying and eventually working in English centers as teachers. Most of them are native speakers but lack the proper training and qualifications. As work competition increases it is necessary for me to search professional courses that would allow me to elevate my teaching skills and improve the quality of each lesson. Being a kindergarten teacher has opened my understanding of teaching. It has been a great experience. Now, I believe is time to move on. I’ve decided to start working with elementary and junior high level students. Obtaining this diploma would mean that I’m ready to take on this new challenge. It has been a challenging course, but I believe I have learned the best of it and now its time to put that knowledge into class results.
