A good motivational teaching strategy is essential for the developing of the learning process of the student. As any other person I have also been a student that has been taught by several types of teachers and I find it fascinating how their motivation can interfere in every student’s knowledge acquisition. Undoubtedly, educators must be the motivational engine in the classroom and have the responsibility to transfer motivation. To start with, one of the most important things that teachers must consider is to establish a good rapport with their students. As a teacher you must get to know your pupils. Pay attention to their interests, things they like, hate or make them bored. This is as important as being aware of their actual goals, think about why they really need to study this language, and which are going to be their purposes. In order to be completely sure about it ask your students. The more you know your students, the further you can take them. Secondly, make your students love what they are doing. This point has to do with the previous one. Stick to them and try to design properly personalized lessons. It is certainly difficult to personalize a lesson if you have 20 students but try to find those things, they might have in common to make them feel they are listened, understood, and they will find themselves stimulated in every single lesson. Thirdly, challenging their learning. Show them how many things they can acquire through a well-developed system of activities increasing the difficulty of them little by little and let them know how they are improving. Secondary to challenge is rewarding, the teacher can also create a reward system that would encourage and make students be more competitive. Not to mention the achievement that it entails. A related point to consider is being surprising. Surprise learners, try new and creative activities, never be afraid of trying new ways of teaching. Take advantage of all the new technological resources we are surrounded by to make your lessons entertaining, amusing and exciting. Be supportive with all your students but focus on students who are not progressing at the same pace than the rest. Within a group there will always be students with some more difficulties than the rest of their classmates for this reason you will have to make a constant monitoring, if it is necessary take an extra time to provide them with all the explanations they need. They will be grateful for your sympathy and will probably not feel bad for their slower progress. On the other hand, do not forget your outstanding students. Take time for them proving they also deserved a special attention. In this case, you should offer them harder and more complex specific exercises and prepare some extra homework for them. It is the labor of the teacher to try to understand all kind of students and make them all feel understood. All things considered, it is in the hands of educators to make the classroom a stimulating space. Doing things fun, interesting and practical, demonstrating enthusiasm. Teachers must provide their pupils with all the tools and keys to feel this way and never forget that they are as responsible for giving students motivation as for demotivating them.
