The main gist of this unit, for me, at least, is the structure necessary for engaging the student and introducing new topics. Engage-Study-Activate in the various orders presented (Straight Arrow, Boomerang, etc.) is useful for me in that it gave me a methodology to go forward. Earlier in the chapter the discussions about earlier forms of teaching, and the pros and cons of each was enlightening. In truth I can see where I have gone wrong in teaching some children and am glad to have learned quite a bit in this chapter. But to know the various forms, and draw upon them when a particular education point is needed, seemed useful to me. Indeed, because of the introduction of Cuisenaire rods, I searched on YouTube for an example and now think this would be useful for me in learning a language, so perhaps it I could try it when teaching a class.
