How do we begin learning? All humans begin learning languages and so much more from their parents. Parents are the first teachers of a child, but we gain more teachers throughout our journeys through life. So, what should be the parents’ role when the butterfly flies off the cocoon? Is it correct to leave everything about your child’s education to the teacher’s hands or should you do something more? Even if the teacher is a big part of the children’s education life, parents should be covering the rest of it. Education is one of the most important things that makes a proper human being. Something so grave can not be and should not be left for one person alone to handle. Therefore, parents and teachers should work hand in hand to shape our future. Communication is the key for this alliance. Parents should always be in touch with the teachers to be able to solve any possible problems to come along the way. Children should be raised by balance and continuity. If the child’s teacher says one thing and his/her parents say another, s/he will be conflicted and will not learn the proper behaviour or knowledge. Hence, s/he will pick the easiest one which usually is the wrong one. If the teacher and the parents keep a continuous and balanced attitude , the young person will learn it without confusion. Sometimes children may behave differently at home and at school. The teacher and the parents should communicate to be able to understand the differences and if there is a problem or misbehaviour, they may solve it together easier. If the teacher and the parents work together, the education will be accurate and much more efficient. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The education is not only about studies or grades but the personality of a human being , hence, the society, country and eventually the world. Without the communication, support and rapport between the parents and the teachers, things might go wrongly. There are some occurances that parents and teachers are comparing their dominions over the child’s education life. Not only they do not listen to each other, but also they both intend to force their methods or attitudes on the child. Needless to say that this situation creates a confused, uncertain being. If parents do not want to participate in their child’s education life, his/her education will be incomplete. If parents do not support their child’s school life –hence, supporting the teacher- , the child may not pay the necessary attention to his/her studies or other activities. Neither teachers nor parents should try to be dominant in such an important matter. They should work together by respecting and listening to each other. We all become who we are with the support of our parents and we learn most of the things we know today from our teachers. These two things are the two sides of a medallion and they can not be seperate. Having so much power over a human being is both scary and wonderful but it is a big responsability and it would have the best possible outcome if this huge responsability is shared between these two fascinatingly strong pillars.
