Deciding upon which teaching method is most effective is still a lively debated topic, different methods have different draw backs and appeals in different contexts. However, no matter the method, TEFL teaches using Jeremy Harmer's "Engage, Study, Activate" framework. The generic version of this framework arouses student's interest and gets them initially involved, then builds off of that with a more focused exercise or lesson, and concludes with a free range opportunity for students to explore English for themselves. That being said, the framework can also be deployed in a "boomerang" or "patchwork" style which is fluid with the component orders, as long as it begins with an "Engage" component and ends with a "Activate" component. Maximizing "student talk time" and English usage, while de-emphasizing "teacher talk time" should be a forethought throughout the entirety of this framework. There are a plethora of different games and activities that achieve high student speech and engagement while also fulfilling the requirements of different ESA components. Along with these, teachers must also heavily analyze their ability to give feedback in a balanced and encouraging way, never interrupting a student in order to do so.
