I began this online program with over two decades of experience teaching adults in a live classroom, and three years teaching adults online. I have created, developed and successfully delivered hundreds of different programs over the last twenty years. I know I was born to teach, as teaching is not only a skill that many can learn, it is also a gift that I know I have. My experience in teaching is based on the Accelerated Learning approach, where we believe learning involves the whole mind and body, not just the mind. I witnessed parts of the AL approach to teaching within this course and I intend to continue to use the AL model within the ESA model shared in this course. Based on my extensive experience in teaching, I feel this course was put together and delivered exceptionally well. I openly express my gratitude to the developer(s) of the program and to those who designed both how and when each unit of this course would be delivered to each student. I learned from my TEFL/TESOL course that even with over twenty years’ experience, there is still a great deal for me as a teacher to learn, develop and expand into. My greatest discovery is that I didn’t know what I didn’t know until I completed the program. I noticed there was a pattern to my successes and to my frustrations. I learned that I am fully capable of speaking and writing with the correct use and application of grammar, although to break down grammar and teach it to another is an art form; one I don’t feel I have and will now expand into learning this with great passion. Review of the Past, Present and Future Tenses Units was a humbling experience for me, which allowed me to tap into the emotions and likely frustration that each student discovering this for the first time may experience. I also learned that prior to taking this course I had no idea how to read the IPA phonetic symbols. I learned that this was my favourite lesson to complete as it provided the understanding and clarity in order for me to successfully read and speak using the phonetic symbols. I look forward to teaching this part. The greatest lesson I’ve learned in my teaching career is that everyone can learn. I believe that the student who is not understanding the material, or is being perceived as unable to learn is simply not being taught in a fashion that he or she understands. It is our job and our responsibility as teachers to make sure understanding by delivering the information in a fashion that everyone can comprehend. Combine this approach with an encouraging and accepting energy in the classroom so that together, we have successful students and successful teachers. I’ve learned a great deal from this course and to narrow it down to only one best thing, would not do the course or the experience justice. Thank you for the opportunity to experience and learn from ITTT. I enjoyed the process of completing my TEFL/TESOL Course.
