Why is lesson planning so important? I decided to write my summative task on lesson planning and its importance in the classroom because without it, a teacher can become lost, nervous, and very ineffective. Lesson planning requires a teacher to carefully think about clear objectives and the techniques to achieve the objectives. A good lesson plan give direction to a class and ultimately to an entire course or series of lessons. I want to discuss my opinions as to why I think lesson plans are so important. First of all, a lesson plan creates a goal. Once a teacher accurately determines a student's level a lesson plan can be made. A lesson plan must be created at a level a student can comprehend. I think one of the things a lesson plan allow is a clear record of activities practiced in the classroom. It is important to remember all the concepts taught and a lesson plan allows this recording. A teacher can also let others use a lesson plan if they are absent. I think learning English with clear objective is better than randomly learning unrelated concepts. A lesson plan that takes in to consideration building little piece that can be combined together are very effective. For example, simple sentences are created. Later they are tied together using conjunctions. Knowing the aims of a class are important and a lesson plan makes this possible. I also think a lesson plan allows a teacher to learn which methods in a lesson plan work well. Over years I think an English teacher begins to see common problems and struggles students have learning a particular aspect of English. A lesson plan can be re-written to compensate for poor or ineffective method used in teaching a lesson plan. A teacher can than remove the less effective methods of teaching a particular concept. The evaluation of students can become much faster if a lesson planed success and failures are observed over a period of time. The use of a lesson plan by other teachers unfamiliar with the students is definitely an advantage. This also allow a substitute teacher the ability to much more easily teach students that they have never taught before. One thing I have observed in my own online teaching is that it can sometimes become easy to wander off subject. A lesson plan serves as a way to keep this from occurring. Situations in which lesson plans are not there can cause confusion and surprises. A lesson plan is a teacher support. It greatly improves the potential problems outlined above and should be written for any lesson. After having taught English online I have come to know the importance of lesson planning. I figured this out the hard way. I started working for a company that gave free demonstration classes for new students. However, they did not provide lesson plans and I did not know this. So I had to improvise the lesson. This was quite difficult because I did not know the students level and was improvising the entire lesson. The stress almost caused me to quit. However, after a few lesson I eventually found a file which contained many lesson plans at many different levels. After having access to these lesson plans teaching became easy and natural. Even though some of the lesson I did not even have time to study thoroughly. I have become a firm believer in using and studying plans in all teaching. I now look forward to writing or studying lesson plans and enjoy comparing them.
