In this unit there are many aspects taught for becoming an effective and respected teacher along with inspiring the students to become confident with speaking and writing English. Having a relaxed, cheerful and positive demeanor as a teacher will help classroom management, along with maintaining organizational skills and discipline. To keep your students engaged in certain activities, you should always use good eye contact. This ensures the students they are all involved in the lesson and to hold the attention of students who are not being addressed. Amongst others are to maintain discipline, to signal students to start, or stop, and to indicate who is to speak. Grouping students in pairs allows students to get more opportunity to talk and to interact with fellow students, and might be less stressful than talking in front of the entire class. It also allows students to share their personal ideas and thoughts and creates a safe environment to think creatively. Sometime though this style can create a space where more progressive and confident speaking students to take charge of the smaller group and take away talk time from the students who are behind. When a teacher is giving instructions, he or she should always use simple language, and be consistent with using visual cues, same set of words for instructions, and asking students to reiterate the instructions to make sure all have understood them. Maintaining discipline can sometimes be difficult depending on the age of your students, reason for learning, class size and the respect between the students and teacher. By being a confident, nice, charismatic teacher who is punctual, well prepared with interesting and fun lesson plans, can help the students attention and desire to join in during a lesson. One last simple and obvious rule would be to never threaten students or humiliate them because this will just create an unhealthy relationship between that said student(s) and yourself.
