unit 5 Managing classes This unit covers Eyecontact and gesture and voice/grouping students/classroom arrangements/Writing on the board/Giving indvidual attention/Teacher talk time and student talk time/Giving instruction/Establishing rapport/ Maintaining discipline. A unit explaining useful ways to engage your students with eyecontact and gesture, Giving simple easy to understand instructions using words that your students already commonly know. As more often then not it is likely that the students will not have a very good understanding of English to start off. Grouping of students and classroom arrangement can be benificial to class cohesion and ability to maintain interest/attention in the lesson, smaller groupings in to pairs can also benifit the student by allowing for more time to talk and attention recieved from the teacher. Establishing rapport with the students, and between the students as a group. by having them introduce themselves and playing an ice breaker game. can help to instill a sense of trust and common goals in the class, thereby making it easier for the students to express themselves and help each other when they are having difficultys. Maintaining discipline by modeling good behaviour to the students is a good start, being paitent with students that present behavioural difficultys is a good policy as they can sometimes stem from things happening outside the classroom. By being enthusiastic and presenting a fun and interesting lesson boredom can be often be avoided and the students will be less likely to present difficult behaviour.
