This unit looks at teaching and learning. It identifies the four major groups from which teaching methodologies have been based upon. It then looks at the differences between L1 and L2 and looks at learning versus acquisition. In terms of adopting a teaching approach it is necessary to split the group of 5 to 13 into 2 groups, group 1, 5 to 9 and group 2, 9 to 13. Then there is a bit of revision in terms of Jeremy Harmer's ESA methodology.We look at the classroom environment and the different layouts, and then move onto skills We identify the two productive skills and the two receptive skills and study the CiLT approach for Group 1 and the ALTE approach for Group 2 for the development of these skills. Finally we are introduced to Maturation, or the psycholinguistic development process.
