In this unit, I learned the importance of the two groups of young learners. When teaching a group of 5 to 9 year olds, lessons should be prepared with fun games, activities, less talk time, and more movement. Get the students up and involved in their lesson will ensure students participation and full engagement. When teaching groups of 9 to 13 year olds, the use of songs, dance and imitation is not recommended. It would be more effective with this group to teach practical uses for using English in a controlled environment. Student talk time and a array of activities to practice the new language learned will engage them. Followed by group activites which involve more speaking opportunities to the students. With this being said, it would be essential to chose and form lesson plans with these two groups in mind as well as placing the seating within the classroom for students and teacher to benefit from the lesson. It was also important to learn about the methods and theories for teaching English to young learners.
