This unit discussed course development for young learners including limiting factors which can affect the content of the syllabus, various terminology that defines the level of the student and examinations that students can be prepared for. When creating a syllabus teachers should keep in mind the amount of class time available for the course, the quantity and quality of resources at their disposal, cultural issues as well as any compulsory content that is specified by their employer. This unit also highlighted using different tests such as the diagnostic test to asses the student's knowledge and skills in a specific that they have acquired in the past and aptitude tests which can help to determine how well a student might perform in the course. In my current role as ESL teacher I do not make use of these tests but this unit has helped to see how using them an help to design an effective course to provide students with the skills and knowledge that they will need in order to master the English language.
