To create and develop a course for young learners first we have to check their level of English. Usually level tests are graded: 1. Starter, 2. Elementary, 3. Pre intermediate, 4. Intermediate, 5. Upper intermediate. Next what have to be done is needs analysis, to know about students previous estimate learning experiences, what they will use English for and what area most important for them to study. After test and needs analysis teacher can form groups. There will always be some areas that not match all the students so some individual needs can be done through homework and/or assignments. (Some questions for needs analysis: which of those do you do most in English? Speak, read, listen, write. Which of those do you do least? Which is the most difficult?). Limiting factors: employer, time constraints, resourses, cultural issues. Syllabus design: in some schools there are already existing syllabus which will be given to teacher, but if not teacher should make it. Most important to consider: 1. How long is your course and how it is broken down. 2. How many progress tests will have during the course. 3. Leave some flexible time to cover things that come up. 4. What language points you have to cover( alphabet, greetings, colors, animals, shape and size, wh questions, there is/are. 5. What ability and age range in your group. Types of test to measure the efficacy of the program and allow students to monitor their progress: diagnostic, placement, aptitude, achievement, proficiency, progress. On completion of the course it is advisable to do some form of evaluation.
