In this unit, I have learned the importance of certain tests given to students before, during and after a course. There are a array of tests to detemine the students proficiency in English, what would be the best level for the student to begin a course in English, what their previous knowledge of the language was, as well as progress tests given midway through a course and a achievement test given for a whole syllabus or course work. These all determine where the student will commence and continue their studies learning a new language. It was helpful to research norm-reference tests vs criteria reference tests. I had found a great video of an Indian mans’ explaination on the subject, which I found so helpful. It is good to know that a criteria test will not compare with another students’ or group of students grades. It will not impact your individual performance from outside evaluations. It is also a more effective test for the learning process to measure a students performance. This was a informative unit.
