I feel like this unit had a lot of holes where individual research was needed. The previous unit was not a problem for me since additional research regarded material I was already familiar with/was easily accessible. However, this unit was very problematic when it came to the test, specifically questions four and five. Question four asks for which (one) EFL band level is excluded when compared to Common Reference Levels. In the Wiki article linked, there are three common reference levels and five EFL band levels, suggesting there would be two missing. That said, I reasoned that 'Intermediate' was the answer considering it was the only one without a specific level corresponding (starter - A1, elementary - A2, pre-intermediate B1, Intermediate NOT B2 but shares B1 with pre-intermediate, Upper-intermediate B2, C1, & C2) and took a guess. If the question was worded differently or the unit specifically compared and contrasted the two tables instead of leaving it up to the user in the task sheet, that would have clarified things. Regarding question five, the question should specify that it references the same link provided in question four. It's not terribly difficult to figure out, however, it would have prevented confusion if it was just mentioned in the question to reference the Language-Specific Scales table just as question four specifies referencing the Common Reference Levels table. Furthermore, question four contains material that was already discussed/presented in the unit while question 5 seems unrelated to the rest of the unit/test material. With so much effort put into the production of the rest of the course, it seems logical to include all information that will be tested in the unit. Including accessible links (one link required a university e-mail and the link to Adam John Simpson's article did not work) to trusted and reliable websites to pertinent information every now and then is acceptable and appreciated. While individual research is an important ability to possess, if certain material is going to be one of the main focus on a test then adequate study material should be provided.
