Teach English in Huangjiaying Zhen - Hanzhong Shi

In Unit 2 of the course " Teaching and learning", in the section " Teaching groups and individuals" I was introduced to the differences in teaching groups and individuals, and what are pros and cons in teaching " one to one" classes. I have selected this topic because I think, based on my personal experience, that it is crucial and attractive topic for each teacher, especially online consultants, and tutors. First of all, I would like to extricate the potential disadvantage of no group work/pair work. I agree that is easier for the teacher to organize a dialogue practice for at least two students, but I must say that every time when I was working one on one sessions, as the second part of a "pair activity", it turned out very well and I have met great satisfactory among the students. The point is that clients ( students) who choose one on one classes, expect to do such as activities with a consultant as one sight of " being at the same level" with the teacher. That gives them a feeling of importance and self-worth. Material resources are also an important part of teaching one on one classes. Although, the advantage can be already prepared and written brochures or lessons provided by the company, on the other side, having a non-authentic material requires time and better knowing of the student, one's abilities, and tendencies. When is about personal differences as one of the disadvantages, the fact is that the student will not ( if that is a possibility) book further classes with the inadequate consultant or the relationship will be based exclusively on professional basis all the time, which I consider as a not exceedingly suitable for both sides, teacher and student. It is very important that the teacher can keep the learning environment pleasant for the student in licit borders, where both, student and teacher, feel comfortable. Finding a common interest is a great way to build a trustworthy and respectable bridge between student and teacher. Point of the course, where things become a bit boring for the student while interacting this way with a teacher, can be avoided by different types of activity during the class, so the student will lose a feeling of doing the same things each class. Once when a teacher establishes a good relationship with the student, everything becomes much easier. Disadvantage such as a " doing all work alone" can easily become an advantage once when a student realizes how it is important for one to deal with all the necessary details and information alone. The feeling of accomplishing all the task alone, until the deepest and smallest parts of the content, can't be compared with anything and is very important in student's further learning. The main task of the teacher, at the end of the day, is to transform all of the disadvantages into advantages. Importance of personal feedback can't be replaceable. Students can get a full report of the class, particular topic, weaknesses and progress. At the end of this summary task, I want to mention the importance of 100 % attention which, one on one, students get! Full attention of the teacher can be beneficial for the student in many ways. First, they feel appreciated, understood, aware of the privileges given in these types of classes, therefore highly motivated to present themselves as best as they can and achieve personal goals and aims regarding the language, and of course building a self-confidence which will allow them to use the knowledge in the future, upcoming situation without hesitation. As a resume of the topic, I will adduce my own positive vote to one on one classes as the suitable ways of providing a student with the best possible knowledge.
