Most of the people in Turkey can not speak English? As we all know the English language is very important and required every corner of the world because it is a global and international language. It is used with many occupations and when people want to get a job and when they apply any job that they want to do, the first thing and the first question is "Do you know English?" asked by the interviewer. But in some countries learning English is a big problem that one of them is Turkey. There are many good quality state and private schools and the learners in these schools have at least 20-25 hours English lesson each week. In addition, There are not only Turkish teachers but also Native-English speakers work. Even though Turkish learners have intensive English lesson, they still have a problem with productive skills especially with speaking. There are many reasons for these issues such as the education system, the method of teaching English, and inadequate speaking practice. First and also the most important reason is the education system because the education system is not sufficient, and the nationalist policies of governments made it hard because almost each year education system is changed and it creates confusion among the students. Moreover, students get unmotivated because of this. But I can say that especially the well-earned families are more likely to get better language education for their children with private schools, inasmuch as many private schools redesign their own system. As an example; one of my friends lived in the capital city and went to private schools his whole life. His English classes were much better than that of state schools because he learned all subjects through English. On the other hand, in most other state and private schools, they do not have enough sources to study. Another main reason of this problem is the method of teaching English. In many state and private schools English education system is not good we discussed above but also the method which is too focused on the grammar-translation method rather than speaking. I mean they try, but the methods they use are poor. Lessons focus on exams rather than actually teaching. Lessons in English are aimed at getting the student to memorize set sentences. I tell my students do not memorize everything because it will be boring and tedious. If something is boring, people leave it quickly For example; I teach as a part-time in a language school. Most of my students said that “I learned and wrote many times to memorize the words but I forgot it a while later” That is why teaching method should be changed. It should be a more communicative method (speaking focused) rather than grammar translation method (structure focused). Last and another major reason is deficient speaking practice. There is no way to learn a foreign language without putting on the effort. Even if you take a really good class at school, you will forget everything if you don't practice it. I'm sad to say this but a lot of people here are too lazy to learn, make a research, and practice. I have some students in a language school who always listened to songs in English but never looked up the words' meaning. So If someone learns a subject, first he/she learns structures, patterns or formulas then he or she should do more practice as much as possible. In conclusion, Studying grammar structure is fine if you are taking a specific English grammar test or exam but other than it will only slow down your progress and confuse. Also, you worst of all and it may demotivate you. you should avoid translating from your native language and, as mentioned above, avoid concentrating too heavily on grammar rules when you are speaking.
