Depending on the teaching situation, you might think that maintaining discipline isn`t so important. You want the time you spend in the classroom to be fun, instead of wasting time protecting and punishing children. In this case, I want to ask a question: did you know that according to existing estimates, 80 percent of teachers who quit their jobs after the first year of study were forced to do this because of their inability to maintain discipline in their class? Based on this, each teacher must understand how important and relevant the issue of discipline is. Although the word discipline seems negative, the purpose of using the discipline is to teach students the limits and limitations to help students achieve personal and academic life goals. Maintaining rules and structure allows the teacher to be more productive in the classroom, making it more productive and fun for everyone. Although the discipline looks almost the same in all subjects. For an English teacher for foreign students, it may be more difficult to maintain order due to the language barrier. First of all, when a teacher goes to a new job, an English teacher should remember that the first impression is very important. The teacher should always be professional and punctual. It`s impossible to build discipline if the lesson starts at the wrong time. That is, the discipline begins with the teacher and the rules exist for all. The behavior of the teacher in the first days and weeks of classes sets the tone for how the whole educational process will develop. If the teacher admits bad behavior right from the start, the students will quickly realize that they can get away with it and continue to check the teacher’s limitations until the class deteriorates completely. To avoid this, the teacher must be hard enough, but not angry, to use a hard but calm tone, no matter how outrageous the student behaves. The teacher must use his calm voice to maintain confidence. If he / she loses it, then he/she loses respect. A teacher lays down the rules from the very beginning and creates a system of scoring points or other methods of both punishing bad behavior and rewarding good behavior. The scoring system, for example, provides an additional advantage by encouraging students to control one another’s behavior. The most important part of creating a disciplined class at the beginning of teaching is the sequence. The teacher should not be afraid to prevent the whole class from calmly, clearly and firmly resolving issues of discipline. A very good role in the organization of the discipline is greeting with students: knowing their names and using them in and outside the classroom. It brings together and builds relationships. Also, although the teacher can use the students' native language only in specific cases, it will be useful to find out the meaning of the terms, words, especially the slang used by students, to maintain discipline. In addition, it helps in attracting attention when students aren`t very good at speaking the language and don`t always understand who and what exactly the teacher asks. Sometimes students may be distracted, bored, communicate with each other. At such times, the teacher may want to resort to punishment. But in such moments it`s necessary to remember - for the teacher it`s very important to be fair. Although students shouldn`t be threatened with what you cannot do, strong teachers rarely produce their threats into actions. There`s an element of convincing bluff ;) But when it does happen that some students maliciously and consistently force teachers to fully reveal their cards. What to do in this case? Firstly, it`s necessary to determine the motives of these rebels. Usually they are driven by the desire to attract the attention of the group or some students behave badly for getting the teacher`s special attention. They want to be the center of attention, they demand it more and more. The essence of their "bad" behavior - demonstrative. The need for attention - the basic psychological need. In fact, students show that they want to interact with you, but they don`t know how. What will a good teacher do in this situation? Will start shouting in order to show WHO is really in charge in class? Probably this isn`t the right decision… Every teacher should remember that shouting is a form of repression and humiliation. And this is not at all what we want to achieve from our students. The teacher must gently, without becoming personal, find a solution to such a problem. Therefore, for example, in such an existing situation, the teacher can take advantage of this desire of the student as an advantage and direct his energy in the right direction. The student can be involved as a “assistant” of the teacher, giving him the opportunity to pass out and collect material, write on the board, and so on. Or give the student an "important" task - to speak, read something, or write in front of the whole class. In both cases, the desire of the student will be achieved to stand out without disturbing the discipline and damage to the relationship between the teacher and the student. As a result, everyone will win. In addition, the process must be accompanied by the praise of the student that will be perceived not only by him, but by all students as a motivation for good behavior and learning. Of course, motivation in itself is a great engine for organizing discipline. It`s only necessary to find out what can motivate a student and the floor of the case is already in the hands of the teacher. But if it still happens that it`s impossible to solve the problem in a similar way and the teacher needs to reprimand, he/she should not do it publicly. You need to try to talk to the troublemaker calmly, quietly and carefully, using simple and understandable English so that the student can understand what his fault is and how to fix it. Without good discipline in class, you cannot achieve excellent students` knowledge. On the other hand, the lack of initiative and passivity of students in the classroom indicates a lack of interest in the subject being studied, which also leads to poor knowledge. Therefore, the teacher should strive for the "golden mean". In life, this is more like maintaining group dynamics than a classical discipline. What is group dynamics and how does it work for discipline? This is the relationship between group members. You can monitor the class for a long time, but you can monitor it during one lesson as well. If the teacher monitors the dynamics in the lesson, he/she will see a change in mood, emerging conflicts, boredom, and therefore, can prevent problems with discipline. By the way, the teacher is also a member of the group to some extent. You can monitor your own condition and understand what is happening in the classroom. Monitoring the dynamics means not just watching the class. It`s rather like catching fluids - students began to be distracted, it means you need to find the cause. If the class is focused at the beginning and quickly becomes unmanageable when the teacher begins to teach, perhaps his/her lessons are just boring. If the lessons aren`t fascinating and not clear, students cannot be expected to pass through them. Therefore, it`s worth making sure that students get interesting material with which they can interact, and the lessons will be held more smoothly. Each teacher must ensure that his / her lessons consist of the Stages of Engage, Study, and Active. It`s very important to alternate between active and lecture parts, to give group and individual work, to change the pace of the lesson. The teacher can indirectly receive information about the level of interest in his/her lesson through feedback from students in the form of a dialogue, on a large number of replicas and counter questions. Also, the teacher himself must provide a lot of positive feedback. Don`t forget to praise the students, to recognize their contribution and behavior. The teacher should make education interesting, fun and relevant for the life of students. Poor planning and a full curriculum can cause disruptions. A failure can also occur when a teacher forgets that his/her students aren`t native English speakers and they may not understand him/her. Therefore, if the teacher has noticed that students are beginning to be distracted, this may be the reason. To avoid this, the teacher's speech should always be clear, measured, understandable, when it`s needed slow, with intonation. Summing up, we can say it`s the balance - to try keeping in balance all aspects of class work. The teacher must be in some way like a juggler who will skillfully interest and teach the student without putting the discipline at risk. This is a successful path to good discipline. Isn`t it?
