There has been a big discussion in the teaching world about differences in English taught by native speakers and English by non-native speakers. Most people express skepticism about the viability of the successful implementation of the language by non natives and have specific concerns, too. It is very understandable, since natives speakers have more advantages compared with non-natives. If we take a look at the advantages of native speakers, the picture will be looking as followed. First and foremost, native speakers have better oral skills and they provide the most accurate pronunciation for the learners. Another advantage is proficient speakers have a wide range of vocabulary, idioms, phrasal verbs and expressions. In this case, natives without any doubts outweigh any skillful non-native English speakers. Moreover, people who have English as a mother tongue feel the language more than non-native , since they acquired it naturally. From the very childhood, they heard this language, used it on a daily basis, and their parents and teachers used to constantly correct their grammatical constructions. Naturally, their language experience exceeds the experience of non-natives. There are, however, disadvantages of Speakers which must be considered. The opposite side is that natives speak well but they do not know how to properly share their language knowledge if they are not qualified enough. So if there is a qualified, fluent and enthusiastic non-native speaker it is certain that a student will choose non-native speaker, since the teacher can relate to the students and knows the right way of teaching, as English is a foreign language for him/her too. Even though after studying all the features of English phonetics, students usually face problems with pronunciation and understanding the speech. In this case a non-native speaker can help clearly and quickly explain the basic mistakes of the student and provide ways of solving and correcting them. However, it should be noted if the students want an absolutely clean standard speech, then qualified "expert user" is the right choice. Moreover, if the students have a good theoretical base it is going to be easier for native speakers to modify and improve the pronunciation by feeling the small deviations in the sounds of students' speech. So we can see here that non-native speakers equally have recognitions. Another advantage of non-native speakers is they usually careful with specific features of learners and countries. As it is well-known that the letter "r" is difficult to pronounce in some Asian countries native speakers will face problems with teaching phonetics and pronunciation lessons to them. In this case, non-native teachers can help students to improve their pronunciation and find ways of correcting it. Non-native teachers mostly use standard simplified type of English without adding any extra expressions nor idioms. Additionally, NNET (non-native English teachers) have greater understanding of language teaching methodology, therefore they have better lexical and grammatical skills. There are a lot of requirements to be a good Non-native English teacher, as it requires a high level of English proficiency and the most important in a teaching world is to be TEFL qualified. Some countries choose natives over non-native English teacher, however it is certain nationality preferences should not stop the teacher from believing himself and finding a job as an English teacher. Despite having fluent English and feeling the language, it is very essential to non-native speakers to have a TEFL certification and teach English as a foreign language . TEFL is not just a "validation" of your English it is showing and proving yourself that you are capable of doing great things and still being a non-native speaker satisfy your wants by teaching and doing things that you love. So that is why TEFL gives opportunities to be recognized as a qualified NNET and pursue the dreams of sharing and teaching. Undoubtedly, most countries prefer native speaker since they hold same concerns that we already discussed above, nevertheless there are still countries that welcome non-native teachers such as South America, some European countries, Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Korea, China etc.). However, working as a non-native English teacher in Asian countries is not easy. Teachers in this country are treated differently in terms of having TEFL certificate or not. For instance, non-native teachers in China with TEFL certificate certainly will be having a higher salary rather than teacher who does not. In past three years there were fair employment opportunities for non-natives with good English, recently China has exploited several options and has increased the requirements for teachers. Moreover, in terms of advertisement and attitude, a certified teacher has more advantages than a non-native one too. To sum up, both native and non-native English teachers can be highly qualified teachers and it is wrong to make conclusions based on the origins of the teacher. After the first communication and lesson, it is already possible to draw primary conclusions whether you like his voice, timbre, pace and the way of presenting and teaching the materials, the first impression and atmosphere of the class. If a non-native teacher can satisfy all these aspects then he can probably meet the expectations and be a good teacher. If you believe that you are a suitable candidate and a good teacher, with the ability to motivate, engage and teach students then nothing should stop you from becoming into it.
