Currently, there are many different forms of teaching in the world. Each type of teaching has its own advantages and disadvantages. The same goes for 1-to-1 style teaching and group teaching. There are some basic differences between these two forms of teaching in some areas as follows: Firstly, time and study space. For teaching 1 -1, the student and the teacher are actively chosen while group teaching is not, they have to study at educational institutions and follow the syllabus of that institution. Secondly, curriculum and learning materials. They are available for group teaching, from input quality assessment tests to regular tests or final exams. But with teaching 1 to 1, the teacher must compose the textbook and find its own learning materials that are suitable for the student whom she is teaching. Thirdly, activities in the classroom. It will be easy to organize activities in pairs and groups of three or more in teaching group. However, the teacher will not be able to apply the kinds of these activities in teaching individuals. Therefore, if the teacher does not actively change the method and has interesting exercises, the 1 to 1 class is very boring. Fourthly, the teacher's time and attention. For 1 to 1 class, the teacher will have more time for the student. The teacher also knows the student’s learning needs. The student is more taken care of by the teacher. The teacher knows student's strengths and weaknesses and quickly finds a way to help the student overcome the weaknesses. For learners, the choice of 1 to 1 or group class depends on their needs and motivation for learning. If they want to learn how to speak up confidently in public speaking, get comfortable with small talk, improve listening, practice negotiating,or learn to debate, consider a group class. If they want to learn how to speak in 1-to-1 settings, focus on their individual pronunciation problems, improve writing, or have all of the errors analyzed and corrected, consider a private, 1-to-1 lesson. If the learner is a social person and enjoys talking with others as well as likes to work with a team and is inspired by other people then a class will be motivating than a one-to-one lesson. If the learner doesn't like to work in groups and wants the full attention of the instructor, then a one-to-one class might be better. If the learner is easily distracted, a personal instructor who will keep the learner on task will be beneficial. As a teacher, if I have an opportunity to choose, I will choose to teach in groups. Although there are a lot of advantages in teaching 1 to 1, the wages are paid higher, learning time is more comfortable, the relationship of teachers and learners is closer than teaching group, but teaching groups will be more dynamic, fun and interesting. You can have the students work together in pairs or threes; you can play games and have teams of students compete against each other; you can mix things up by having them stand up and mingle during an activity. None of this is really possible with individual classes. In short, each form of teaching has its own advantages and disadvantages, the choice of appropriate teaching forms must depend on the learner’s need, learning-style, and motivation. We also need to consider the instructors' needs, teaching-style, and strengths. There is not a one-size-fits-all answer to the teaching forms, but there is likely a perfect fit for each person’s situation.
