Who are the teachers? Teachers are givers or trainers who provide knowledge to students.They are like a mentor who will be remembered all throughout the life of a student. Teachers can change the life of students in a good way. They impart the greatest gift of knowlidge which no one can steal. Do we need the teaching skills in a classroom? The job of a teacher is not only to provide subject knowledge but to impart good skills, values, and discipline among the students which can only be achieved if a teacher possesses those skills by themselves. So a teacher must possess skills like discipline, patience, being creative, being a good mentor, etc. to teach effectively in a classroom. Some of the teaching skills required in a classroom can be listed as follows: • Patience: Being patient with your students is very important. Young learners can be very talkative and naughty, but as teachers, we need to have patience with such students. While adult learners may want more advancement in their topic so a teacher must patiently analyze their requirements and fulfill them. • Management skills. Teachers should be able to manage a class irrespective of its size. They should know the strength and weakness of a student and arrange the classroom accordingly. Making a "lesson plan" beforehand can be very beneficial to manage a class and get the desired output from the students. Time plays a key role in this skill. Managing a lesson or managing the class in the given time frame is very important. Managing the lessons as per the ESA rule can prove to be beneficial as you plan to engage, study and activate a student can give the best output. • Creative Skills In order to make the lesson interesting and engaging a teacher must have the creative skill. They must come up with some new ideas that elicit the students. This skill can be more useful in pair work and group works. Lessons which require fun activities like making a poster, writing a role play and outdoor activity require creative ideas and skills. Many young learners get more engaged in a lesson when they get to do some creative work like coloring, playing, listening to music, etc. • Good communication skill Teachers should be very clear in what they speak. For a class of beginners, teachers should keep their instructions simple and short, so that it's easy to understand. They should be polite while communicating with the students. • Confidence while teaching in class Teaching a large audience for the first time a fresher teacher may hesitate while speaking or may lack confidence or may forget what to say next, so they should practice prior to start a lesson and make a proper plan as to what they will teach in a class and then only can a teacher be confident enough. • Getting feedback from students Teachers must understand the students' needs and gather feedback after every lesson so that she/he may understand what topics the students need to work on and henceforth plan the lesson accordingly. Giving feedback is helpful for the students also as this helps them to revise what they have studied in a particular lesson. What impact does it have on the students? Students will have a better relationship with the teacher. They will not hesitate to ask questions as their teacher is polite and patient with them, they will have more organized teaching environment, they will engage in creative activities, they will understand the instruction more clearly and will be able to give feedback without hesitation. The skills of a teacher are very important to run a class smoothly.These skills make a good rapport with the students and their parents.
