In this unit, I learned the different aspects that make up a good teacher, as well as a good student/learner. I also learned about the different types of roles the teacher has to take on. I learned about the different age groups a learner may reside in, and how each age group learns differently. There was a section about the different levels of language ability, and what to generally expect from a learner of each level. Lastly, I learned what motivations someone may have to study English. To summarize what I feel are the most important aspects of this unit, I feel that the teacher must at least like teaching. I believe so because in my experience, a teacher who has no interest in teaching only produces bored, unfocused students. A good student should not be afraid to make mistakes and ask questions. Learning from mistakes and experimenting can be the most efficient ways of learning a new language. There are several different levels of language ability for any language, and a student from each level will have entirely different needs that the teacher needs to be sensitive about. Most importantly, every student is different. The teacher has to be sensitive to the different needs that each student beings to the table.
