The future of the world is in the hands of the children. It depends on the children and especially the education they receive, whether the future is a positive or negative one. The education of a child is so valuable that one has to take into account the importance of the child's education. Also, one needs to pay attention on how to nurture those bright minds so one day they can become independent individuals. As educators, teachers play an immense role in children’s lives to become successful in their future careers. A good teacher helps them to become a good human being in society and an obedient citizen of the country. Teachers know that students are the future of any nation and that the future development of any nation is in their hands. Teachers' roles today are significantly different from they used to be. It is much more than just teaching a lesson. In today's world, teaching is quite a multifaceted profession. Teachers’ job is to help students learn how to use their knowledge and integrate it into their lives so they will become valuable members of society. Teachers adapt learning ways to each student's learning, to challenge and inspire them to learn. To achieve that goal a teacher should be flexible, inventive, professional and knowledgeable enough to deal with daily challenges and find different ways to help their learners needs. Establishing a safe and warm environment for learners, creating mutual respect and set goals that challenge learners of all backgrounds and abilities. Here are some roles that teachers carry out in the classroom. 1. Teaching knowledge The traditional role of a teacher within the classroom is to give knowledge to children. The teacher teaches the students a particular subject, build on students' knowledge and moves them toward a deeper understanding of the subject at hand. Teachers have a special curriculum approved by the Government. They follow this curriculum throughout the year and dispense all pertinent knowledge to the students. 2. A role model The most common role of a teacher is being a role model. A role model is a person who inspires and encourages students to seek greatness, use their full potential and see the best in themselves. A role model is someone students admire and someone they aspire to be like. Teachers typically do not think of themselves as role models, however, unexpectedly they are. Teachers are there not only to teach the children but also to love and care for them, give advice and guide. 3. Third parent Students spend a great deal of time with their teacher and have more contact with their teachers than with their own parents. Many students suffer from a lack of parental presence at home. Parents may be either working many hours and unable to see their children or they're absent from their children's lives and give the warmth and love they need. Students look to teachers like the one who can give them that love and support they are seeking. There are certain students who lean on teachers for support and come to them for advice or to share their good news. Positive adult contact is important to raising well-balanced children, and teachers are often given the charge of being a third parent for their students. So it is important for teachers to always reflect a trustworthy and positive image whom students can trust and respect. A teacher can do this through his actions and words in the classroom, being an example. 4. Creating a Classroom Environment Teachers also play a vital role in the classroom when it comes to the environment. Students often mimic a teacher’s actions. If the teacher sets a warm, happy environment, students seem to be happy. If students feel the teacher is angry, they may also react negatively. So the environment created by the teacher can be either positive or negative. A reflection of the teacher’s actions and the environment she sets directly affects the behaviour in the classroom and teacher is responsible for that behaviour. 5. Assessor The teacher assumes the role of the assessor to see how well students are performing or how well they performed and mastery of the lesson objectives. This assessment can happen either informal, that is, classroom observation or formal, like tests. Teachers must assess each student's growth and be able to plan their lessons to meet their students' needs. Many teachers find this role the most difficult to perform, as they have to evaluate the knowledge of their students, being fair, objective and not influenced by the concerns of the discipline, personal likes, and feelings. 6. Controller Controlling is the process by which teachers ensure that the learning activities and behavior of children in the classroom are corresponding with the objectives, expectations, and plans of both teachers and school. The teacher is totally responsible for the class, what students do, say and how they say it. 7. Learner One last important role a teacher is that of a learner. There is always something new to learn to continue to grow and develop as professionals. A teacher will be challenged every day with a new task that will help them grow into a better person, take advantage of any chance they get to grow as a teacher. For achieving quality education in the classroom it is vital to have teachers with knowledge, wisdom, and values, who are ready to be motivators, role models, organizers, controllers, assessors, and even event planners, travel agents, tour guides, bookkeepers, first aid givers, and more.
