This unit communicates that a good teacher should be learner-focused. The act of teaching is not an end in itself, but rather a mean to the end of helping students to learn. All the roles a teacher has, from Manager to Participant, are defined by how they related to the students. A teacher must know when to use assume these roles to ensure their students learn best. Learner's disposition can vary highly, from motivated adult learners who are afraid to make mistakes to distracted learners who are unafraid to make mistakes. Their language skill and attitudes will differ from learner to learner, so a teacher must flexible and adaptable in their approach to serving the learner's needs best.
