In this unit, we learn that teaching new language is based on teaching vocabulary, grammatical structures and functions of the language. In the previous units, the subject of Straight Arrow, Boomerang and Patchwork lessons are clearly explained. So it can be sait that a teacher can benefit from a Straight Arrow lesson phases while teaching primarily grammar and vocabulary. Moreover he/she can use, for functions-based lessons, Boomerang or Patchwork Lesson phases. For teaching vocabulary, there are some crucial factors to which a teacher should pay attention such as the similarity between the new languages word and the students' own language, spelling and pronunciation etc. For 'Engage, Study, Activate' phases, there are so many examples of activites. For example: Relia, mime and action for Engage part. Crosswords, matching exercises for Study part and pair discussion, role play for Activate part. When it comes to grammatical structures, we understood from this unit that meaning, use, forms and patterns, spoken and written forms are important. And just like vocabulary techniques, here are lots of examples for activites of each stage. And at the end of the unit, we learn that while teaching language functions such as inviting,refusing,suggesting etc. a teacher can use a Boomerang type lesson.
