As is said in the introduction of this chapter, this type of grammar is something that we are not taught in school, besides the basic parts of speech such as noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. These are very familiar. However, these are broken down even further, such as the different tenses in verbs, or different types of nouns, such as common, proper, compound, abstract and collective. Gerunds (the -ing form of the verb used as noun) was especially new to me.
