In this unit I was once again reminded of the fact that it is of great importance for the ESL teacher to know the English grammar very well in order to be able to explain it effectively to the students. It is crucial to bear in mind that some students’ first languages might not have all these different tenses to talk about actions in the past , and so it is the teacher’s job to explain the nuances of the past tenses of the English language. In other words, if the teacher is able to explain, show how and when to use and , of course, provide enough time for practice with vatios fun activities that will keep the students interested and involved, the past tenses and their usages won’t be seen as scary or impossible to grasp or unapproachable by the students.
