In this lesson I learned that the the three phases of teaching a new language (engage, study, activate) are critical to student success. I also learned about different techniques that can be utilized during each of the three phases. Here is an example. In the engage phase of a lesson with the theme of home, students may be asked questions about where they live in order to become engaged. Pictures may be used during this phase. During the study phase, dialogue concerning common household items and phrases may be used. Then, during the activate phase, role-play may be used about living in a house.
