One of the most important concepts in Unit 3, I feel, is the ESA method of teaching a lesson. ESA stands for Engage, Study, Activate. To begin this method, the class must first be welcomed with the Engage stage. During this time, students should be encouraged to use English freely and communicatively to warm up for the lesson. In the Engage stage of this method, teachers should not be focused on drilling, correcting, and fine-tuning the students’ English. Next, in the Study stage, corrections are more appropriate in order to learn and improve. Last is the Activate stage, where students are again allowed to use English to communicate freely. In the Activate stage, the teacher should be receiving feedback on if the lesson was effectively taught during the Study stage.
