Summative Task Volunteer teaching Sharing is caring , Teaching English abroad is a great way of improving your interpersonal skills and adding some attractive, hands-on voluntary experience to your CV. Whether you use it for vocational growth or personal growth. there’s one thing that every voluntary teacher will take from their experience; and that’s a new way of looking at the world. And that’s a new way of looking at the world. Immersing yourself into a whole new culture and experiencing everyday life from the eyes of underprivileged communities allows us all to open up our minds and find compassion deep within ourselves . So not only do we get to impart important life skills to the children and young adults of this world who need our help the most, but we get to learn an awful lot along the way. And no matter where you choose to take your skills and enthusiasm, someone somewhere will benefit from learning English in your classroom. While doing volunteer English teaching aboard you will come to learn that people in need to learn English normally are very kind and accommodating with what ever little they have to share. If you are going to do volunteering work you must make sure of a few important points. 1 Is your trip being organised by an NGO where you pay the organisation certain fees to have certain things in place before you arrive, eg Visas , transport from airport to institute, accommodation, food, internet facilities, mobile telephone charges and chip, cleanliness of the institute ,security at the place of work, and general rules and discipline. And places for buying your local everyday needs supermarkets, laundry etc. This nearly an all inclusive package. 2 If you are going total on your own then a lot of factor’s come into play. 1)First choosing of the country where you are going to. 2)Do you have any friends in that country and would they suggest where you would be most comfortable. What kind of weather you will come across when you are there. 3)Finding the best airline connection and what the price would be, visa charges and whether you can get an online visa, which type of visa do you require. And if you require any health inoculation 4)Personal health insurance plan this can get very expensive in a foreign country. 5)Clothing in the country you are going to and the amount of baggage weight you will be able to carry on the airline. 6)Writing to the institute where you are going to volunteer and finding out which dates they would like you to be there and for how long. What qualifications are required by the institute. Which subjects you will be teaching how many hours a week you will teaching, what activities are there in the evenings or weekends. What sort of age groups you will be teaching. 7)Making a budget on what your everyday spending would be and asking the institute what they would provide as far as accommodation, transport , help on visa acquisition, meals. Any health issues you might have. Supply of electricity and what power converter you might need for that country. 8)Make also a plan B or C be if plan A is not going to work. Always have a back up plan. 9)After considering all these points still plan to have some extra cash around some credit facilities on your credit cards. 10)When going to that country also make sure which social internet sites work or are allowed. 11) Make sure when you are in that country you obverse local regulations on driving or riding permits which are required , and keep away from unethical places. 12) Remember most of the time you are going to a poorer country than where you come from so corruption also plays a factor. After you have taken the above points into consideration. You should make your decision on how you would be most useful. And whether you would enjoy the work and would it give you self satisfaction. I my case I did it the second way and found that I found new friends and acquaintances, after the first few days I started thinking in a different way and appreciating how different things are done in a different way.
