This unit gives us an idea that by learning new language students need to be able to understand it's meaning, construction and they also need be able to use it in practice. In teaching new language lessons can subdivided into vocabulary, grammar or function-based. While straight arrow ESA lesson can be easily applied for for teaching vocabulary, teaching grammar or function in their turn may more oftern require boomerang or patchwork type of lesson (may not be the ultimate rule though) I found it useful to discover that a teacher may choose a target vocabulary based upon the frequency it can be applied in different situations.
