Teach English in Dashiju Zhen - Shaoxing Shi

The unit on vocabulary, grammar and functions was a "down-to-earth" approach to teaching that I enjoyed. After learning about the engage, study, and activate methods of teaching in earlier units, concentrating on the teaching of vocabulary and grammar to students of different English levels made sense. There were several good examples of teaching that would be fun for the students and teachers such as the example of using the boomerang lesson with students by having them talk about their favorite leisure activities, find others that like the same activity, and listen to an invitation dialogue on tape. The students then compare what they heard on the tape to their dialogue and use what they learned to role play invitations. In this lesson students are using vocabulary and practicing grammar while enjoying their class time. I also thought it was helpful to have the basic criteria for selecting vocabulary for lessons. I think these basic rules can sometimes be forgotten by teachers when planning lessons and it's helpful to frequently review the criteria.
