English is considered as a universal language, mainly because it is widely spoken all over the world. English was originally the language of England. It’s expansion became imperative due to to the dominance in World Trade, Religion, Technology, Tourism, Education and so on.UK expansion and the incursion of USA as the first world power saw the migration of English Language all over the world. About 70 countries adopt English as their official language and statistics has it that English language is one of the easiest language to learn when compared with other languages like Chinese, German, French and Spanish. The dominance in English language as world leading language has enhanced global cooperation and integration in Business, Technology, Education and so on. The world of today needs English language for some of these basic needs like; Internet, which has specifically ruled the world of today and English language is the most dominated language and widely used in the internet world.In Education,its use is synonymous with English language.Most of the materials used all over the world was written in English. For decades, English has been an easy communication for people all over the world. Other areas like Tourism, Business are essential in global importance of English language. Most Countries especially in Asia now adopt English as their second language and a core subject in their School curriculum. Using Vietnam as a case study, since the change in their foreign policy intervention in adopting an open minded policy and in their bid to adopt a diplomatic relation among other nations regardless of political or cultural affiliation. These change saw a huge influx of foreigners especially Tourists.These enhanced the need for English language integration into their system which saw a rapid movement of Foreign Teachers of English into their country in the early 1995. English is now regarded as a core subject and must pass for students to gain admission into Higher institutions.It also brought in direct investment and economic and regional expansion with other countries like China,Thailand,Singapore,Malaysia which has gone far ahead of them.In the past 10 years,English have developed with an unprecedented speed in Vietnam.Most of the countries in Asia has adopted English as the second language. However, Teaching English language as a career or profession comes with its own challenges especially in Asian countries and other Non English speaking countries. The Methodology used in teaching in English speaking countries are quite different from the way its taught in Non Speaking countries like China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos etc. The Teacher need to undergo a form of training to obtain certification in order to teach in these countries. Most abound is TEFL/TESOL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Teaching English as a Second Language). During the course, the teacher is expected to learn different skills and techniques used by Teachers of English as a Foreign language in the classroom. These special techniques involves theories and methodology of Teaching, Class room management, Techniques used in Teaching young learners and Adults, Activities and Games. After completion of the program, the person will be issued a Proficiency Certificate in English(Tefl/Tesol). In today’s world of globalization, gaining knowledge of English language is a prerequisite for economic advancement and cooperation among different countries of the world. Ocean of Career opportunities are bountiful for those English speaking people anywhere and everywhere since most companies requires English proficiency as criteria for employment and a working tool for technology.Beside , the world need a common language for easy communication and English language which is widely acceptable by different countries have become a world phenomenon.
