Ben Tagoe Linguistic Learning USA Compared to France in the Classroom 2019/5/31 I am going to compare the USA where there are a lot of services for special needs students, and ELL students to France where there are not as many services for special needs students. Many times in the USA students come from around the world for many reasons. There is a plan in place to make sure that these students are able to get up to date and on track with their peers. This is done in part by holding ESL classes in the public schools where the children will continue to learn at their grade level but also learn to speak English. By doing this they are able to work towards moving to the normal class room with the rest of their peers. This gives students, parents, and teachers something to look forward to and to work for. There is a lack of inclusion classes in France that would help with children who do not speak French. Just like the USA children are moved to France from all over the world for many reasons without being able to speak French. There is also no IEP system that would allow for ESL/ELL time for a student to learn French while they are in school to ensure that they are able to find the success needed in order to join their peers in the classroom. Another difference is that students in France do not salute a flag daily or say a pledge of allegiance to their country and see it as an odd policy that a country such as the USA would still be doing it when it is seen as something done in places such as North Korea. This is also a very odd habit for new students coming into an American school for the first time. There is a push in France to ensure that while children are in high school they start to go down a career path that fits who they are. This is something that Americans do not do there is a feeling inside the USA that students should be able to pick what they want to do in their life, and are able to change course of study daily if they see fit. Also, there is the matter of transportation; in the USA there are school buses that take children to and from school free of charge to the family, where as in France most children take public transportation. The USA does not have a system in place that would make taking public transport a system that would work for most students. . However, there are things that the USA does better than France. When it comes to extracurricular activities American high schools have made it a point to get students involved giving them a great high school experience. This can be in the form of sports, clubs, or ESL groups. Where as in France most extracurricular are done outside of school meaning that inside of school students will not have the same amount of experiences inside of a school setting. All and all, while there are many things that each county does to ensure the education of their students the French tend to have more value on education, where as the Americans focus more of extracurricular activities.
