Teachers play important roles in the lives of the students in their classrooms. AS teachers our role is to educate the students that are placed in our care. Teachers serve many other roles in the classroom. Teachers set the tone of their classrooms and we build a warm environment for our students meaning that if we prepare a warm and happy environment then the students are more likely to be happy because students mimic the teacher's actions. We mentor and nurture students. To our students we are their role models and they look up to us that is why it is important for us to set a good example for our students. A role model can be anybody: a parent, a sibling, a friend but some of our most influential and life- changing role models are teachers. It’s a teachers job to look out for students as well as to listen to them and look for any signs of trouble like for example when the students behaviour change or there are physical sign of abuse then we as teachers are required to look into the problem and follow the correct procedures. The most important role and most common role a teacher plays in the classroom is to educate the students as well as teach them knowledge. As a teacher we need to provide our students with the correct resources so that they can strive in life and implement what they have learned in the classroom to real life situations and we need to help our students to reach their potential as well as help them to discover their personal interest. We need to help them find their strength and weaknesses and help them so they will be able to overcome their weaknesses. AS a teacher we are seen as the students surrogate parent because many of the students suffer from lack of parent contact at home and there are some parents that spend very little time with their children because of work. AS a teacher you might find some students that lean on you for support and come to you for advice or to share some good news and that is when you should support that student and help them. We are assessors because we can’t just teach a lesson and then move onto the next lesson. We need to assess each student’s growth and mastery of the lesson objectives. Teachers must be expert planners, both on paper and in our heads. You never know what will happen to your current lesson plan so you should always have a backup plan and need to be able to adapt the lesson if you need to. As teacher we become developers because when teaching your students you will realise that the worksheets in textbook won’t be enough and you will have to create your own. We need to develop our own tests, assignments, and even create our own games. Being a teacher is so much more than standing in front of the class lecturing. The best teachers are happy to extend their role beyond lecturing because they know it makes the students educational experience so much more beneficial.
