One of the greatest gifts a teacher can give students is a strong sense of confidence. Making students believe that they can succeed, will make them succeed A teacher who interacts with students every day, become a mentor and will find himself/herself in a strategic position to influence their believes and their self-esteem. There are many ways teachers can positively influence students: 1)Be a role model: Students will often reflect teachers' behaviours, so it is very important that teachers know how to present themselves. 2)Be prepared and ready: Being ready for a lesson it's one of the most important things teachers need. Being unprepared won't give any confidence to the students. 3) Encourage your students: This sounds banal, but accepting students mistakes with grace and encourage them will make them comfortable during a lesson. Praising them will help them too, it's another face of encouragement: To accept mistakes and to praise their good work. Self confidence needs to be built on failure and success. 4) Challenge them: Students need not to be bored, not to expect what they think it's expected from them. Challenging them is a good opportunity to show them that they can be more. It is very important for teachers to make students think outside the box, to make them stretch their mind. Students will not expect that teachers have such high expectations from them and they will accept the challenge, they will be more confident. 5) Allow them to express who they are: Foster creativity is one of the most important phases of a lesson. Every student is good at something, but a teacher will never know it without this particular phase. To express themselves freely will allow students to build their own character and to build their own confidence without external interferences. 6) Listen and Respect your students: Affirming students means accepting them as individuals. Listening to them, make them understand they all matter is one of the most respectful thing teachers and people, in general, can do. Students are all different, they need to be seen as individuals and each of them will develop self-confidence differently. 7) Give them personal assignments: Giving students jobs will be a confirmation of the teacher's trust and will give them a boost of confidence. 8) Be organized and teach them how to do it: First of all, when teachers teach students something they know, students will be happy to know that teachers want to share personal advice and personal knowledge they have. This will show them that there is more than a professional connection between teacher and student. The second target of this is, to teach students to actually be organized. This point is very underestimated among classic teaching methods. Teachers should give ultimatums, structures of work and due dates that should be respected by every single student. Trusting them when they are organized will give them an idea of where and when their self-confidence becomes useful. Because teachers see their students so frequently, they can play a key role in building their confidence every day. For some of the students, teachers may be the people who believe in them and implants in them the confidence they need to pursue their dreams and goals as they transition from school into the world beyond.
