Playing games in the classroom is one of the most important methods to use. From early years to adults, there are various games to play which are related to the objectives and the topics that are implementing in the classroom. Research has shown that there are many benefits for playing games in the classroom. When the teachers plan their lessons, they should try to incorporate at least one game a day into one of the key elements as a learning tool, strategy or classroom motivator. When students play a game, they become more engaged in their learning and classroom positivity is increased. 8 Benefits of Playing Games İn Classroom 1. More Motivation: Games are fun learning tools and students enjoy learning through games. By playing games, students pay attention more and participate in set tasks. Games help students to become a part of a team, take responsibilities for their own learning. Games can also be a great classroom management tool to organise the student's roles. 2. Controlled Competitiveness: Students can be so competitive in classroom activities. Games can be a great tool to control the competitiveness between peers. Because, games have rules that are decided before they start and those rules can control the over reactions between students. 3. Strategy Simulator: Problem-solving strategies, planning, following structures are required for most of the games. Using a range of strategies help students to improve their communication and social skills, also It helps to solve their daily problems in real life. That's why playing games can increase memory and help them to think and act quickly. 7. Class Cooperation: Team work is one of the objectives of playing games in the classroom. Through games students learn how to take turns, listen to eachother, respect other players and be fair. Classroom games can be used as ice-breaking or a team building exercise. Because games can be quick and need to stay focused to be successful. As It was mentioned above, playing games have numerous advantages. Beside all, there are some disadvantages of playing games as well such as; educational computer games can be addictive after playing several times. Research has shown that computer games affect student's behaivor nagatively, can cause wasting their time and low-esteem, aggressive behavior espesially if children keep losing at the game. As an educator, we should see both side of playing games in the classroom and spend good enough time to find more beneficial game for the students.
