Lesson Planning is basically a structure of how you decide to teach a certain topic within a certain period or time frame.Lesson planning has different components such as Aim and objectives of the topic, content, strategies used to teach the topic, resources used, and time taken and evaluation. The lesson plan summarizes the entire topic in two to three sentences and acts as a guide for teachers in class and it is also useful to the administrative staff of the school to see what the teacher has been doing in class. It also provides evidence to the Ministry of Education on the progress of the syllabus since lesson plans are documented in schools. The lesson plan breaks down the entire schools subjects curriculum into smaller modules or topics that are taught for each session. The Topic in Lesson plan is basically shown by a couple of words or an overall broad sentence of what is going to be taught in the present session or class period. The Topic is then broken down to something called " contents" The contents elaborate on the topic but it is not very detailed since it just just a sub division of the overall topic of the lesson plan. The Aims and Objectives of the lesson plan more or less suggest what do you expect students to learn from the topic being taught and and how can they apply it to case studies. In the lesson plan,we may see strategies employed to teach a particular topic , so depending on the topic different strategies such as power point presentation , marker on board, role play, games such as dictionary ,using videos such as YouTube and the use of text book may be employed to teach different topics. Some students do well on their own, others in pairs, and yet others in big groups. So long as you're letting them interact and build off each other, you're doing your job. But since each student is different, try to allow opportunities for all types of interactions. At the end of the class students are evaluated and this should also be shown on the lesson as to how you evaluated students to ensure that they grasped the concept of the topic being taught. Teachers may again employ several strategies such as Quizzes, Teamwork, gap fill activity , Oral and written test and presentations. Making an effective lesson plan takes time, diligence, and an understanding of your students' goals and abilities. The goal, as with all teaching, is to motivate the students to take in what you are teaching and to retain as much as possible. The benefits of lesson plans are two fold. First, it allows you to map out what you're planning on teaching that day, and organize everything in your mind prior to presenting it to the students. Some teachers even like to show their kids the lesson plans, as it provides them with a map of what topics they're going to be encountering. The second benefit is usually for your superiors and higher ups, as you're usually submitting your lesson plans to a department head. This allows them to monitor your teaching without necessarily shadowing your class every day. This also allows them to make recommendations about the structure of your class if something can be improved upon.
