As a teacher, it doesn't matter you are teaching adults or young kids, good classroom management is always important and necessary to your class. It affects your teaching result and affects your students learning result. Why is it so important? Imagine. in class, your students are talking each other when you are presenting the knowledge you would like them to listen , or for young kids, even walking out, running out or even shouting, playing when you are teaching. What a mess it will be. Whatever you are talking they actually don't learn. So have them sit down, keep quiet, the most important, keep focus on you is the must thing and the first thing for them to learn when your class starts. So how do you do a good job on classroom management? First, you need to know your students, such as their age, their English ability so that you can take proper strategies to make your students behave well and keep focus on you during class. If your students are young kids. Then you may think about these factors: 1. pacing. Your teaching pacing should not be slow as young kids cannot keep focus on one thing for long time. You cannot stay on one activity or one teaching component for too long time. You need changes, design different activities. Make your class more diverse to keep students attention. And when you speak, pay attention on your intonation, gestures, body language. Try your best to make your class animated. Second, build up good relationship with your students. no matter your students are adults or kids, good relationship is very important. Only when your students have good relationship with you, when they like you, they will listen to you. Third, don't make your lesson too simple or too challenge. Make it just right according to your students' English ability. If it is too simple it will be too boring to your students then they will not feel excited in your class. But if it is too difficult, your students will not be interested either. They will lose their confidence and will not want to learn anymore. So make your class just right and make your students feel a little challenge but they can reach there so that they feel good when they succeed on some achievements. And before class, set up for your class including the way you put your chairs, the decoration on your wall, your PPT, props, materials. These also can make your class fun and attractive so that students will keep their focus on you. In your class make sure to make a low affective filer, that means you are creating a safe, relax and comfortable learning environment for your students. Finally, I would like to say one more time, Good classroom management is crucial to your class. Students only learn when they are in a class which has good classroom management. Teachers should think deeply about how to create a good learning environment and manage your classroom well to offer your students an effective and good learning environment.
