I have been teaching some capacity since I was 13 years old. My first teaching experience comes from martial arts. I was spending many hours everyday in the dojo and my instructor asked me to be the person to lead warm ups and teach kata to the newer students. I have been actively teaching martial arts for the past 30 years. After I completed high school, I joined the Army and served for two years. Upon leaving the Army, I started my academic pursuits. The first degree I sought was a degree in electronics engineering technology. This was a two year program and the last quarter of classes, the department found itself short a teacher to teach assembly language programming. Fortunately for the department, I self-taught myself computer science and was programming machine code at home. The department staff already knew this and they asked me to teach this class and thus my teaching in academic settings began. Once I completed my EET degree, I went to work for Intel Corporation. At Intel Corporation, I was selected to teach classes to Intel employees. I taught theory of semiconductor devices, construction of semiconductor devices, laser operation and theory, photolithography, and many more classes. I was also selected to be on the emergency response team at Intel Corporation and was assigned to be a medical first responder and hazmat control. This specialized role lead to me teaching emergency communication, hazardous spill containment and clean up, first aid, mercury containment and clean up, lead containment and clean up, and many more classes. In addition, Intel Corporation selected me to be the person to travel to local high schools and colleges to tell people how to get employment with Intel Corporation. I would conduct resume writing workshops and teach people how to write resumes. The resume writing workshops lead to one of the community colleges asking me to teach courses for them. I took their offer and I taught introduction to electronics, and digital electronics for this college. I continued with this college and Intel Corporation for a number of years before moving to another state. When I moved to Illinois, I could not find work in the electronics field. Having earned a bachelors of science in geology while I worked at Intel Corporation, I decided to enter graduate school and pursue my masters in geology. While teaching I was awarded both a research assistanceship and a teaching assistanceship. For the teaching assistanceship, I taught introduction to geology lab courses one and two and did this for four semesters. After leaving grad school, I took a position as a fuel and filtration engineer. I know it does not match my degree. However, my grad work was in hydrogeology, which is the study of groundwater flow. Groundwater flow is the flow of a fluid through a porous medium. Fuel filtration is also the flow of a fluid through a porous medium. During this time, I taught courses to company clients on fuel filtration, the use of super absorbent polymers to remove water from fuels, the understanding of phase separation in ethanol blended gasoline, and many other courses. My fuel and filtration engineering position was lost when the company downsized and I took a position at a private high school and taught: physics, biology, geology, chemistry, introduction to physical sciences, algebra, advanced arithmetic, health, pe, and Japanese. I taught at this private institution for a year before the institution shutdown due to lack of budget. After this year, I entered a hiatus from academic teaching, but continued to teach martial arts. About three years ago, I took a job as an electronics technician. This position has also offered me teaching positions. Currently, I teach hand-soldering and printed circuit board defect analysis. I now look forward to teaching English as a foreign language. In summary, I have a lot of varied teaching experience working with different age groups. I have picked up a lot of teaching know how over the years. I know look forward to teaching English as a foreign language.
