Past Simple is used when time is given, asked about, or definite. Example: When did you work? I didn't work yesterday, but I worked 2 days ago. Past Perfect Continuous is used for past actions/situations which were continuous up to the past moment being talked about. Example: I had been working until 7pm. Past Perfect is used to indicate completely finished past actions. Example: I had worked because I was bored. Past Continuous is used for description of events/situations, indicating actions that began in the past but continued after the stated time, interrupted actions, and gradual developments without time. Example: It was getting dark when I heard a knock at the door. This might be a fun for students to learn because the activities used to teach it would give students an opportunity to talk about themselves (their pasts), and use creativity (such as making up a story or giving a mock interview).
