I found unit 3 to be rather interesting as it caused me to reflect on the methods and techniques that I myself have employed within the classroom. Some of which aligned with the recommendations of this unit but just weren't identified as such. I have also observed some not so effective methods utilized by non-native English teachers with whom I currently work. I have found that not knowing the students' native language has helped me to remain focused on English. With this, I think it is more likely that the students will be able to learn more of the language rather than about the language. As teachers, we sometimes fail to remember that our main focus should be on getting the students to do things on their own and apply what they have learnt rather than us just giving them answers and instructions. I have realized that some of the methods that I use still have room for improvement and for best results a mixture of methods and techniques is required. Moving forward, I will aim to adapt what I have learnt from this unit in my future lessons in order that I may better be able to meet the needs of my students.
