I have enjoyed this course from the beginning right down to the last word. Thank you for the opportunity! What have I gained? I will give a short summary of what I have learnt over the past few months: • A motivated student is a good and successful student. • It is important to make lessons as much fun as possible. • The teacher should be clear on all parts of speech and have a good knowledge of grammar rules. • The teacher should allow the students to experiment with the language and not try to over correct. • Discipline is needed, but don't ignore some problems, as it may be a personal problem in the student's home environment that is causing the problem. Support this student where necessary and show you care. • Lesson planning is very important to keep focused and organized. • Make the lessons fun by adding games that are suitable for that part of the course. • The dictionary is the language bible and the best tool for a teacher and student to have. • Lessons should not be too long, but if the lesson is very long, try and keep it interesting and fun. Be flexible and also prepare extra worksheets and activities, just in case. • Keep things interesting and fun for yourself as the teacher. • The course book should only be a guide and lessons can be adapted and changed to be more fun. • Always be prepared. For example: If you have planned using electrical equipment for a lesson, have a back-up lesson without the use of the electrical equipment, just in case the electricity fails, or something goes wrong. • It is very important to test all the language skills – reading, writing, listening, speaking. The above is just a small summary of the tips and advice I have received throughout the course that I know will be useful for the future. Although I can speak english fairly good and I previously thought I had good knowledge of the language, I have learnt so much about the language throughout this course. Some parts were revising what I may have forgotten and other parts were very new to me. I have really gained a lot of knowledge regarding the english language in this course and it has inspired me to learn even more and to read much more. Above all I have learnt a lot of great teaching skills. I believe that these skills will be valuable in any teaching situation and that I can only become a better teacher with the use of these skills, especially in a foreign country, when teaching other people this wonderful language. When you are young, it is always difficult to decide the road you want to take and what you want to do with your life. I am not that young any more, but before I started this course, I was also thinking about the road I would like to take and this course has made the decision so much easier and clear for me. I want to be a teacher and I know I will be a great teacher. I want to travel the world and experience different cultures, but I would also like to give back to these communities and what better way than to share my knowledge by teaching. I still have a way to go, but I am passionate about this and know that I will enjoy teaching others and I am confident in my own abilities to make this a success. I am looking forward to the next part of the course and can't wait to start. This has truly been a great course, so far. Thank you once again.
