This tefl course has been really beneficial for me as I embark on my career of teaching english. Since I do not have any prior experience as a teacher, this course has helped me to feel more confident in my ability to organize and maintain a classroom full of students. It has given me many wonderful ideas about how to engage my students and how to create an exciting and interactive syllabus. The course has given me a good understanding of how to plan my course, and I really enjoyed using the lesson plan templates to practice creating complete lessons. It has done a good job of highlighting the essential aspects of creating a positive and effective environment for my students.
Additionally, the course was great in giving me a refresher in english grammar. Even if it is my native language, it is not something that I have ever studied overtly. This course did a great job of bringing to my attention many rules that I may have been using but wasn't specifically aware of. It made me more confident in my ability to teach the language to others and to be able to explain many of the quirks and exceptions of this complex language. Of course, there is always more to learn in terms of grammar, but I think the course did a great job in introducing this topic.
I am more excited than ever to start teaching. Currently I have a job already lined up here in Cartagena, Colombia at a language institute. While they have their own methods and ideologies that they have created over the hundred plus years they have been operating, I will always have the knowledge gained from this course to support and guide me. I was really interested to see how many times these two different ideologies overlapped and the commonalities I found. I will surely be using the knowledge I gained not only at this current job, but also as I continue my career and work for, hopefully, many different schools in different countries.
